Lot 1002: Late Victorian Mahogany Two-Piece Glazed Display Cabinet
A late Victorian or Edwardian period two-piece display cabinet or bookcase constructed from mahogany or a similar dark-stained hardwood. The piece is designed in two sections, comprising a separate upper glazed cabinet that sits upon a lower cupboard base. The upper section is fitted with a pair of large clear-glazed doors and is configured to hold internal shelving. The lower base section contains two short drawers positioned above a double-door cupboard. The upper panels of the lower cupboard doors feature relief-carved inset panels depicting a trailing floral and foliage vine motif. The cabinet is fitted with decorative cast brass swan-neck handles with ornate sunburst-pattern backplates and brass escutcheons on the doors and drawers. The interior includes several loose wooden shelf boards.
Condition report:
The cabinet exhibits signs of wear consistent with age and use, including surface scuffs, scratches, and minor marks to the timber. The internal shelf boards are currently loose and removed from the upper section. A modern adhesive inventory tag is present on the front left glass pane. The glazing and hardware appear to be original and are in generally good order.
