Lot 1009: A 20th-century Danish Hand-carved Tudor Revival carved oak cabinet on stand, manufactured circa late 1930's in Tastrup, just outside of Copenhagen.
A 20th-century Tudor Revival style oak cabinet on stand of two-piece construction. The upper cabinet features two doors, each with two recessed panels decorated with high-relief carvings. These carvings depict figures in traditional early-modern dress, including two figures at a circular table, a figure at a workbench, a scribe at a writing slope, and a standing figure with a staff before a leaded window. The doors are framed by heavily carved stiles and rails featuring foliate scrolls, acanthus leaves, and grotesque mask motifs at the corners. A central horizontal band of carved bead-and-reel moulding divides the panels. The interior is divided by two vertical partitions and one horizontal shelf, creating four storage compartments. The cabinet rests on a separate oak stand featuring four large, turned bulbous cup-and-cover legs joined by a low, rectangular stretcher frame. The piece is finished in a dark-stained oak.
Condition report:
Overall good condition with wear consistent with age and use. Minor surface scuffs and abrasions to the woodwork, particularly to the base and extremities. Some light staining and dust to the interior. No keys are present.
