Lot 1014: Sam Toft (British, b. 1964) 'Along the Prom with Audrey H and Doris' (Signed)
A contemporary mixed media painting on canvas by the artist Sam Toft. The figurative scene depicts the character Mr. Mustard in a long yellow coat and striped hosiery walking along a promenade. He is followed by a group of round, white sheep-like animals behind a decorative railing, with a stylised bird in flight in the upper left. The composition is rendered in a muted palette of pale blue, green, and yellow, using thin applications of paint and visible charcoal or pencil line work. The work is presented on an unframed, gallery-wrapped canvas. Signed Sam Toft in the lower right corner.
Condition report:
The painting is in generally good condition. There is light surface scuffing visible in the upper background area, which may be characteristic of the artist\'s mixed media technique. Two auction labels are attached to the upper right corner.
