Lot 1025: Late Victorian or Edwardian Mirrored Single Door Wardrobe
A single door wardrobe of substantial proportions, constructed from a polished hardwood with a warm reddish-brown finish. The piece is designed in the late Victorian or Edwardian style, featuring a multi-stepped overhanging cornice above a central door. The door is inset with a large rectangular mirror plate and is flanked by narrow vertical panels. Decorative elements include pierced fretwork panels with stylised abstract motifs located both above and below the mirrored section. The carcase is further detailed with recessed rectangular panels and sits upon a solid plinth base with a subtly shaped lower apron. The construction appears to be in three sections, comprising the cornice, main carcase, and plinth base. The interior fittings have not been inspected for hanging rails or shelving. Hardware includes a simple metal lock plate and a small pull handle. A small white inventory tag marked 1025 is attached to the lower left side of the frame. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The piece exhibits visible surface wear consistent with age and use, including various scuffs, scratches, and minor indentations to the wood finish, particularly along the edges and lower portions. The mirror plate appears to be intact from primary viewing angles.
