Lot 121: Black & Decker Workmate 400 Portable Folding Workbench and Vice
A vintage Black & Decker Workmate 400 portable folding workbench and vice, dating from the late 20th century, circa 1970s-1980s. The unit is constructed with a blue-painted steel frame and a two-piece wooden plywood work surface. The front horizontal cross-member features the printed maker’s mark Black & Decker alongside the model designation Workmate 400. The design includes a dual-handle vice mechanism and a folding frame for storage. The work surface is pre-drilled with holes for bench dogs, and two black plastic pegs are present.
Condition report:
The item shows evidence of heavy workshop use. The wooden work surfaces are significantly stained with various colours of paint, notably pink and green, and feature numerous surface scuffs and gouges. The blue-painted metal frame is structurally intact but displays considerable paint overspray, surface grime, and light oxidation. Both winding handles for the vice mechanism are present. The folding and vice mechanisms have not been tested for full functionality.
