Lot 152: A Group of Wooden Storage Chests and Iron-Bound Boxes
A group of wooden storage chests and boxes of varying forms and utilitarian designs. The collection includes a large chest of dark-stained wood featuring canted sides and a hinged lid, which bears a partial green painted section and an auction label numbered 152. Also included are several smaller boxes of rustic construction, characterised by iron-bound frames and decorative metal corner mounts. These smaller examples are fitted with front hasps, one of which retains a heavily rusted padlock. The construction of the iron-bound boxes is in the style of 19th-century money boxes or strong boxes.
Condition report:
All items are in an aged, well-worn condition. The wooden surfaces exhibit weathering, staining, and scuffing consistent with age and use. The metal components show significant oxidation and surface rust throughout.
