Lot 431: A Collection of Vintage Advertising Tins and Household Collectibles
A collection of vintage British advertising and household items. The lot includes a rectangular red lithographed Oxo Cubes tin featuring the royal coat of arms and text reading By Appointment Purveyors of Oxo Oxo Limited, Oxo cubes for meatier meals – perfect gravy – an appetising beverage. Also included is a cylindrical Corry’s Slug Death canister for The Magic Slug and Snail Killer Powder, featuring a slug graphic and the phrases They Are Dead and It’s Just A Miracle. The lot further contains a boxed Pinafore brand embroidery set with an illustrated cover depicting a young girl, a heavily patinated rectangular metal tin, and various other obscured boxes and containers. The items are housed in a green plastic stackable transit crate, resembling storage bins produced by manufacturers such as Kleton or Basicwise.
Condition report:
The items are in used vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. The Oxo tin exhibits surface scratches, paint loss, staining to the lid, and contemporary handwriting. The Corry\'s canister shows significant oxidation and rust to the metal top and base, with discolouration to the paper label. The Pinafore box has edge wear, rubbing, and surface soiling. Other items show varying degrees of patination and wear consistent with long-term storage in a domestic or workshop environment. The green plastic crate shows typical signs of industrial use.
