Lot 498: A Collection of Studio Pottery Glassware and Treen
This collection features a selection of studio pottery, glassware, and turned wooden items. The primary ceramic piece is a deep circular earthenware bowl, decorated to the interior with a hand-applied marbled or agate slip glaze in variegated tones of blue, green, and ochre. The bowl is finished with a dark brown glazed rim and an unglazed terracotta exterior. The glassware includes two small amber glass cruets or pitchers, each with a single handle, seated within turned wooden stands displaying a prominent grain consistent with olive wood. Also included is a small clear glass vessel with a bulbous ribbed body and a flared rim. The lot is completed by a long slender turned wooden tool, possibly a pestle or handle, and a conical rough-textured object. The slip-decorated earthenware is consistent with British studio pottery traditions, particularly those associated with the West Country. No maker marks are visible on the ceramic body.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in generally good condition. The earthenware bowl shows no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the interior surface. All items exhibit minor surface abrasions and wear consistent with age and use.
