Lot 501: A Collection of 13 Decorative Ceramic Cabinet Plates and Three Commemorative Mugs
An assortment of sixteen ceramic items comprising thirteen decorative cabinet plates and three commemorative mugs. The collection features a variety of British topographical, floral, and royal themes, primarily dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. Included is a large plate commemorating the coronation of Queen Victoria, decorated with a central scene and the monogram V. R. within the border. The three cylindrical mugs include a 1977 Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II example, a 1981 Royal Wedding commemorative for Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, and one featuring a royal coat of arms. The pictorial plates include four scenes of English rural canals with narrowboats, one bearing the name HERON, alongside a traditional farmyard scene with livestock and a winter scene with children. One plate depicts a teddy bear in a naval officer’s uniform. The floral plates feature central sprays of roses and tulips with decorative borders in claret, cobalt blue, and cream, many accented with gilt scrollwork and patterns. Several plates are fitted with wire wall-hanging frames. The items are constructed from a mix of glazed earthenware and fine bone china. No maker’s marks are visible on the surfaces; however, the subjects and style indicate British manufacture, likely from the Staffordshire potteries region.
Condition report:
The lot appears to be in generally good condition with no significant chips, cracks, or restoration visible from the provided images. There is evidence of minor surface wear and rubbing to the gilded rims on several plates, consistent with age and previous display.
