Lot 526: Two vintage cast iron counter-balance kitchen scales and associated weights
A lot comprising two individual sets of counter-balance kitchen scales of typical British domestic form. The first set, indicated by lot sticker 526, features a cast iron frame with a pale green painted finish, a scoop-form brass pan, and an octagonal white ceramic weight plate. The second set, indicated by lot sticker 563, is constructed of cast iron with significant surface oxidation, featuring a mottled blue and white enamelled metal scoop-form pan and an octagonal iron weight plate. The lot includes four circular cast iron weights. The weights bear the following cast inscriptions: 2 LB, 1 LB, 4 OZ, and 2 OZ. No manufacturer marks are visible on the frames or pans of either scale.
Condition report:
Both scales are in worn, antique condition consistent with age and domestic use. Significant surface oxidation, pitting, and paint loss are present across the cast iron frames and weights. The enamelled pan exhibits surface wear and minor chipping. Mechanical function and accuracy have not been verified. The items are sold as found.
