Lot 554: A Collection of Henry Watson Pottery and Decorative Wares
A collection of domestic terracotta and decorative items, featuring pieces from the Henry Watson Pottery of Wattisfield, Suffolk. The lot is headlined by a cylindrical terracotta wine cooler featuring a black transfer-printed circular mark. The mark is inscribed: THE ORIGINAL SUFFOLK WINE COOLER Ideal for use at Home or on Safari HENRY WATSON POTTERY WATTISFIELD SUFFOLK ENGLAND Founded 1800. The group also includes two large terracotta jugs with vibrant blue-glazed rims and interiors, and a smaller terracotta jug with a light-coloured interior glaze. Further items comprise a white-glazed earthenware planter of lobed form with relief-moulded foliate decoration, a tall clear glass trumpet-shaped vase with a flared rim, and a dark metal pedestal goblet with a square base. Small decorative figurines include two bird figures and a terracotta owl head fragment.
Condition report:
The Henry Watson wine cooler has several small chips to the upper rim. The terracotta jugs show minor surface abrasions and marks consistent with domestic use. The white planter appears in good condition without significant visible damage. The owl figurine is a fragment with significant losses. The metal goblet shows surface tarnishing. General wear and dust commensurate with age and storage are present across the collection.
