Lot 593: Two Vintage Fishing Reels including a Wooden Starback and an S. Allcock and Co. Ltd. Steelite
A collection of two vintage fishing reels. The first is an S. Allcock and Co. Ltd. Steelite model fly fishing reel, manufactured in Redditch, England. The reel features a black-painted metal body with a perforated spool and two white handles. The reverse side is fitted with a chrome-plated star-shaped lever and a small brass medallion. The medallion is inscribed with the text S. ALLCOCK & CO. LTD. REDDITCH around the top and MADE IN ENGLAND at the bottom. The second item is a wooden starback reel, constructed from dark wood with brass fittings. It features a four-armed brass starback bracket on the reverse and two black handles on the front spool. This reel is accompanied by a handwritten tag identifying it as a Fine Vintage Starback Reel – circa 1930.
Condition report:
Both reels show signs of age-related wear. The wooden reel exhibits a patina on the brass components and surface marks on the wood. The S. Allcock Steelite reel shows significant paint loss and pitting to the metal body and the chrome-plated star lever.
