Lot 797: A 20th Century Mahogany Campaign Style Pedestal Desk
A 20th-century mahogany campaign-style pedestal desk of three-part construction. The rectangular top features an inset brown leather writing surface with a gilt-tooled Greek key border and a central oval patch. The desk is configured with three frieze drawers over two pedestals, each containing three further drawers, providing a total of nine drawers. The piece is finished with brass-bound corners and recessed brass military-style drawer pulls. The pedestals are raised on bracket feet. The construction allows for the top to be removed from the pedestals for transport, characteristic of the campaign style. The design is similar to campaign furniture produced by manufacturers such as Sligh Furniture and Henredon, though no maker’s marks are present.
