Lot 838: Late Victorian style adjustable telescopic brass fire fender
An adjustable telescopic fire fender in the late Victorian or Edwardian style. The item is constructed from formed and faceted brass rails designed to telescope for width adjustment. It features cast brass corner mounts topped with spherical finials. The internal frame and back are composed of cast iron. No original maker’s marks are visible on the body of the item. A modern paper auction tag from Liskeard Auction Rooms is present on the right side.
Condition report:
The brass surfaces exhibit significant age-related wear including overall tarnish, surface pitting, and small spots of green verdigris oxidation. Minor surface scratches are present throughout. The iron backing shows signs of surface oxidation consistent with its age and function. The telescopic mechanism appears intact.
