Start price: £8

Estimated price: £12

Buyer's Premium:

An early 20th-century oak sewing or work table of hexagonal form, showing Arts and Crafts influence. The piece features a hinged solid oak lid that opens to reveal a deep, dark-stained interior compartment. The underside of the lid is fitted with a central padded fabric panel, likely serving as a pin cushion or tool holder, finished with a decorative green and gold gimp braid border and a central retaining strap. The body of the table contains a single drawer with dovetail construction and a small metal pull-handle. The structure is raised on four square-section legs that follow the hexagonal profile, joined by a lower oak stretcher shelf. No maker’s marks are clearly legible, though faint pencil or ink marks are present on the interior base of the drawer.

Condition report:

The table is in good overall condition, showing character and patina consistent with age and use. The oak exterior retains a good colour. The drawer and lid hinges are functional. There is some minor fading and wear to the internal fabric panel, along with typical light scuffs and marks to the wood surfaces. One screw head on the top rim appears to be a later replacement.
