Lot 926: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Revival Style Stained Wood Armchairs
A pair of mid-20th-century revival-style armchairs featuring substantial dark-stained wooden frames. The design includes broad, out-swept armrests with deep horizontal reeding, supported by short turned spindles. The chairs are constructed with a decoratively shaped front apron and are raised on heavy, gadrooned bulbous feet. The seating comprises loose seat and backrest cushions upholstered in a light-coloured, ribbed textile with a repeated small-scale leaf pattern. The frames appear to be of solid wood construction with traditional turned elements. No manufacturer’s marks are present; a white adhesive label from Liskeard Auction Rooms (Lot 926) is attached to the armrest of one chair.
Condition report:
The wooden frames exhibit surface wear, including scuffs, scratches, and minor finish loss consistent with age and domestic use, particularly on the armrests and feet. The upholstery is in poor condition, being heavily soiled and stained across both the seat and back cushions. The cushion fillings have lost their original loft and shape. These items require professional cleaning or complete reupholstery.
