Lot 498: A Vintage Burnham London Writing Set and a Collection of Advertising Playing Cards and Ephemera
A two-piece writing set by Burnham, London, comprising a fountain pen and matching mechanical pencil. The barrels and caps are crafted from marbled grey and white swirled celluloid. The fountain pen utilizes a lever-filling system, identified by the gold-toned metal lever on the barrel side. Both pieces feature gold-toned clips and cap bands, and the pencil is fitted with a gold-toned nose cone. The set is contained within its original presentation box with a cream-coloured interior lining marked Burnham London. Included in the lot is a collection of advertising and vintage ephemera. This includes an H. SingyHai harmonica in a red metallic finish, boxed and marked Made in China. The collection features several decks of advertising playing cards for Martell Cognac, Carling Black Label, and The Prudential Assurance Company Limited. One set of playing cards for St Raphaël Quinquina is housed in a sliding wooden case. A black leather-effect card pouch and a boxed set of Congress playing cards are also present.
