Lot 717: Two Mismatched Mahogany Dining Chairs in Georgian and Hepplewhite Styles
This lot comprises an assembled pair of mahogany dining chairs of differing styles, united by matching contemporary upholstery. The first item is a side chair in the George II or Chippendale style, featuring a shaped top rail with protruding ears over a pierced and interlaced ribbon-back splat. It is supported by cabriole front legs terminating in pad feet, with splayed rear legs. The second item is an armchair, or carver, in the Hepplewhite shield-back style. It possesses an arched shield-shaped back with vertical pierced splats and curved elbow arms on swept supports. This chair stands on square tapered legs joined by an H-stretcher. Both chairs are fitted with drop-in seats upholstered in a modern light-coloured fabric with a trailing leaf and vine motif in shades of green and tan. Rectangular paper inventory tags marked 32 and 717 are attached to the back of the frames.
