Lot 753: A 1950s German Bauhaus Style Bentwood Child's Rocking Chair
A mid-20th-century child’s rocking chair in the German Bauhaus style, constructed from a combination of solid wood and moulded plywood. The design features a single piece of steam-bent plywood forming a contoured seat and backrest, mounted to a solid wood frame and rockers with visible screw fixings. The backrest is embellished with an incised nursery-themed illustration of a teddy bear in a hat and jacket, positioned next to a sun and a picket fence. Traces of further etched figures are visible in the lower section of the backrest. The piece retains handwritten descriptive labels from a previous vendor or auction house.
