Lot 774: An Early 20th Century Art Deco Style Dark-Stained Wood Commode Armchair
An early to mid-20th century commode armchair of Art Deco influence, constructed from dark-stained solid wood. The chair features a curved, wrap-around backrest and arms, fixed-upholstered in a green and grey textured jacquard fabric with a repeating scrolled pattern, secured to the frame with brass-headed upholstery tacks. The seat consists of a removable upholstered pad that lifts to reveal a wooden base board with a central circular aperture designed to house a commode pan. The frame is built with a deep boxed seat section, straight front legs, and splayed rear legs. A small metal latch is present on the rear of the backrest. No maker’s marks are visible. The chair bears a contemporary auction label for Liskeard Auction Rooms, Lot 774.
