Lot 56: Two Ceramic Multi-Compartment Serving Dishes
This lot comprises two distinct multi-compartment ceramic dishes. The first is a triple-lobed porcelain dish featuring a scalloped rim with gilt edging. It is decorated with hand-painted sprays of orange roses and yellow blossoms among cobalt blue and green foliage, set against a dense brown stippled ground. A relief-moulded foliate element at the base of one lobe is finished in blue and gold. The base is marked with the hand-painted characters 469/x in red. The second is a double-lobed earthenware dish with a deeply ruffled rim. It features a high-gloss drip glaze with abstract red motifs over a chocolate brown and ochre ground. The base is impressed with the mark FOREIGN. Both dishes feature central apertures designed to accommodate a carrying handle.
