Lot 538: A Collection of Five British Royal Commemorative Ceramics
A collection of five British royal commemorative ceramic pieces celebrating events from 1935 to 1986. The group includes a Queen Elizabeth II Coronation mug, dated 2nd June 1953, manufactured by Johnson Bros, England. This cream-coloured earthenware mug is decorated with a transfer-printed portrait of the Queen within a floral wreath, flanked by the Union Jack and Royal Standard. The base bears a greenish-blue Johnson Bros maker’s mark and a circular red and blue stamp for the British Pottery Manufacturers Federation Official Design. Also included is a 1977 Silver Jubilee cup and saucer featuring dual portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, set against floral sprays with gilded rims. A separate 1977 Silver Jubilee mug is finished in a dark cobalt blue glaze with silver-toned transfer crown motifs. The collection is completed by a small commemorative mug for King George V and Queen Mary with dual portraits and the royal motto, and a large mug commemorating the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey on 23rd July 1986, featuring portraits and a gilded rim.
