Lot 556: A Collection of Decorative Glazed Earthenware Cottage Ware and Associated Items
This collection of glazed earthenware comprises several novelty and utility pieces, predominantly in the British Cottage Ware style associated with the mid-20th century. The group includes a large biscuit barrel or storage jar modelled as a brick cottage with a thatched-style lid and an overhead wicker carry handle. There are two house-form teapots; one features a cream-coloured body with thatched roof detailing and moulded trees, while the other is a smaller, more brightly coloured example with blue walls and a red-tiled roof featuring dormer windows. Also included is a small lidded preserve pot with a textured roof and a green sign bearing the transcription PIXIE COTTAGE, a lidded honey pot in the form of a traditional straw beehive or skep with a moulded bee motif, and a matching cottage-style cream jug and sugar bowl. Completing the collection is a circular lidded casserole dish with a deep brown glaze and a central knob handle. While no makers marks are visible in the photographs, the items are in the style of manufacturers such as Price Kensington, Price Brothers, or Keele Street Pottery. One piece bears an auction label for Liskeard Auction Rooms with the lot number 556.
