Lot 665: Late Victorian Spindle-Turned Platform Rocking Chair
A late Victorian platform rocking chair, of a style frequently referred to as an American rocker. The piece is constructed with a spindle-turned hardwood frame, finished in a dark stain, and is mounted upon a stationary platform base. The seat is connected to the base by large metal coil springs which provide the rocking action. The front of the base retains two small metal caster wheels. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a woven kilim-style textile featuring geometric patterns in shades of red, black, and cream, which is fixed to the frame with decorative brass-headed upholstery tacks. The reverse of the backrest displays black webbing supports. The item carries a printed lot sticker from Liskeard Auction Rooms and a handwritten tag identifying it as an American antique rocking chair.
