Lot 690: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Hardwood Ladder-back Side Chairs
A pair of hardwood ladder-back side chairs in a country-inspired style, featuring four undulating horizontal slats. The frames are finished in a mid-toned stain and comprise shaped front legs with scrolled feet, joined by a wavy front stretcher that mirrors the design of the back slats. The legs are further supported by straight side and rear stretchers. The seats are fixed and upholstered in a cream and grey fabric with a repeating geometric Greek key or fretwork pattern. These chairs share visual characteristics with mid-century designs often attributed to makers such as Broyhill or Spanish designers like Navarro Argudo. No maker’s marks or stamps are present on the frames. Both chairs retain auction lot stickers, including a label from Liskeard Auction Rooms.
