Lot 730: A Late Victorian Mahogany and Marble Overmantel Mirror
A late Victorian architectural overmantel mirror, constructed from mahogany or a similar stained hardwood. The piece features an arched mirror plate set within a decorative frame embellished with carved scrollwork spandrels. The top is surmounted by a broken pediment with a central foliate-carved crest and scroll motifs. Below the mirror is a deep, shaped wooden shelf supported by scroll-cut brackets. The base section contains a large, rectangular inset panel of mottled reddish-brown marble with white and grey veining, characteristic of Rouge marble. The structure is raised on short, scrolled side supports. A contemporary pink circular sticker with the handwritten characters 32 is present on the lower left of the marble panel, and a small, white rectangular sticker is located on the shelf. No maker’s marks or stamps were identified during inspection.
