Buyer's Premium:

A 20th-century landscape painting, likely oil or acrylic on board, by J.J. Simmonds. The work is executed in a simplified naive or folk art style, depicting a traditional English stone-built church. The architecture features a prominent red-tiled roof, flint-style stonework, and a large Gothic arched window with decorative tracery. In the foreground, a grey stone boundary wall is shown with an ornate wrought-iron gate and small floral plantings. The composition is bordered on the left and background by mature evergreen and deciduous trees under a pale blue sky. The painting is signed vertically along the right-hand edge J.J. Simmonds and is dated vertically in the lower right corner Sept. 1988. The work is housed in a contemporary silver-toned wooden frame with recessed red-brown accents. An auction label from Liskeard Auction Rooms identifying the item as Lot 941 is attached to the upper corner of the frame.
