Lot 393: A Hand-knotted Wool Rug in the Bokhara Style
A hand-knotted oriental area rug featuring a traditional Turkoman-influenced Bokhara design, likely of Pakistani or Afghan origin. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a wool foundation. The central field is a vibrant madder-red, decorated with two vertical columns of seven stepped octagonal medallions, known as guls. Each gul contains geometric motifs in cream, dark blue, and red. The central field is enclosed by multiple geometric guard borders, featuring recurring diamond, cross, and sawtooth patterns in a palette of deep navy, red, and cream. The rug is finished with a short kilim-weave end and a cream-coloured fringe at both ends. The reverse displays a consistent hand-knotted weave density characteristic of the region.
