Lot 407: A Collection of W.H. Grindley & Co. Dinnerware and an Art Deco Style Tea Service
A collection of English earthenware ceramics comprising two primary services and additional associated wares. The first is a dinner service by W.H. Grindley & Co., Tunstall, featuring a cream ground decorated with a blue border, polychrome floral sprays in blue and yellow, and gilded rims. This collection includes a large oval serving platter, dinner plates, side plates, soup bowls, a sauce boat on a fixed stand, and a tureen base with a separate lid. The reverse of the platter bears a green transfer backstamp with a galleon logo, inscribed GRINDLEY MADE IN ENGLAND, alongside a painted red mark 108.
The second service is a mid-20th century tea or coffee set in the Art Deco style, featuring a vibrant orange-red glaze with contrasting black handles, spouts, and finials. It is decorated with a white shoulder band containing a transfer-printed autumnal floral motif. This service includes a teapot or coffee pot with lid, a cream jug, teacups, and octagonal saucers. The lot also contains a group of miscellaneous plates with a light blue floral border.
