Lot 441: A mid-20th century ceramic figural six-cup egg stand in the style of Roesler Bavaria
A ceramic six-cup egg stand or cruet, likely composed of glazed earthenware. The central decorative feature consists of a moulded hen and a small chick. The hen is finished with multi-coloured glazes in shades of green, blue, yellow, and brown with a red comb, while the chick is yellow. These figures are set upon a green-glazed base moulded to resemble grass. Permanently attached around the base are six plain white-glazed egg cups arranged in a petal-like configuration. The piece is moulded with hand-applied or airbrushed colourful glazes over a white body. No maker’s marks or factory stamps are visible on the underside. The item bears a modern adhesive lot sticker for Liskeard Auction Rooms. This style of decorative kitchenware was popular throughout the mid-20th century and was produced by various European and Japanese factories, including Roesler, for the export market.
