Lot 623: Folk Art Hand-Carved Wood Walking Stick with Hare's Head Handle
A hand-carved folk art walking stick featuring a handle in the form of a hare’s head. The handle is carved from wood with prominent long ears, inset red translucent bead eyes, and a blackened snout. The wood is finished with a mottled multi-tone stain and varnish to suggest the texture of fur. The handle is joined to the shaft by a cream-coloured collar, possibly of bone or synthetic material. A section of the upper shaft below the collar is bound with a tightly wrapped black cord grip. The shaft itself is made from a tapered length of light-coloured wood with a clear varnished finish. A black cord lanyard is attached to the shaft by a small metal fitting secured with a screw. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible.
