Lot 656: A Grimwades Imari pattern ceramic egg set comprising a stand and four egg cups
A Grimwades ceramic egg set decorated in a traditional Imari palette. The set consists of a circular stand with an integral fixed loop handle and four matching pedestal egg cups. The decoration features underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red and orange enamels with extensive hand-applied gilt highlights. The pattern includes stylised floral motifs, scrolling foliage, and geometric borders. The ceramic body is a fine earthenware. The underside of the stand bears a red-printed circular backstamp for Grimwades Ltd, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, featuring a six-pointed star with Bros in the centre. The decoration is a combination of transfer-printing for outlines and blue areas, with hand-applied enamel and gilding.
