Lot 665: A Collection of Fourteen Decorative Elephant Figurines
A collection of fourteen elephant-themed decorative items, likely of 20th-century Indian origin. This lot includes a set of eight dome-shaped elephant figurines designed as place card holders, each featuring a narrow slot to the reverse. These pieces are crafted from a white composite or stone material and are hand-decorated with intricate floral, scroll, and geometric dot-work patterns in blue, green, and red. The collection also features a single larger elephant figurine hand-carved from mottled tan and brown soapstone, which utilises traditional jali or undercut openwork carving to reveal a smaller carved elephant inside the body. Additionally, the lot includes a group of five small elephant figurines finished in a dark, near-black stain, produced from a dense material such as resin or wood. No factory marks or decorator’s signatures are visible on any of the items.
