Lot 794: Japanese Four-Panel Black Lacquer and Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Floor Screen
A four-panel folding floor screen featuring black lacquered panels set within reddish-brown wooden frames. Each of the four main upper panels is decorated with mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay in the raden style, depicting various birds perched on or flying amongst flowering plum or cherry blossom branches. One bird is highlighted with iridescent shell segments in shades of green, blue, and pink. The smaller lower panels feature gilded kiri-mon (paulownia family crests), depicting three flowers above three leaves. The wooden frames exhibit faded, painted floral motifs in a dark red tone. The panels are articulated by metal hinges.
