Lot 872: A Victorian Mahogany Bow-Front Scottish Chest of Drawers
A Victorian mahogany bow-front chest of drawers of the Scottish or North Country type. The chest features a configuration of two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, all with pronounced bow fronts. The drawer fronts are faced with high-quality flame mahogany veneers exhibiting a rich grain pattern. The chest is flanked by thick, turned, and tapering mahogany pilasters that extend from the top frieze down to the plinth base. The whole piece is supported by heavy block feet. The drawers are of traditional dovetail construction and are fitted with turned mahogany knobs featuring inset circular decorative centres. Each drawer is equipped with a brass-lined escutcheon. The interiors are lined with secondary woods, with some drawers retaining an older blue paper lining.
