Lot 698: A pair of 19th-century English ironstone square dishes in the Imari palette
A pair of square-shaped serving dishes or dessert plates, likely manufactured from ironstone or fine earthenware. The dishes feature shallow wells and shaped, canted corners. They are decorated in the traditional Imari palette, consisting of underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron-red and green enamels, accented with gilding. The central decoration consists of a circular medallion bordered by a geometric pattern, containing stylised floral motifs and leaves. This is surrounded by four asymmetrical floral sprays featuring peony-like blooms. The rim is finished with a repetitive border of geometric and floral patterns within a gilded edge. No factory marks or backstamps are visible in the provided images.
