Lot 931: A Victorian Mahogany Rococo Revival Armchair
A mid-Victorian mahogany armchair in the Rococo Revival style, circa 1860-1880. The chair features a shaped backrest with button-tufting and a carved foliate and scroll cresting rail. The open arms are fitted with padded manchettes and terminate in scroll-carved supports. The seat is sprung and set within a carved apron, supported by cabriole front legs with foliate-carved knees and scroll feet on brass casters. The rear legs are splayed. The frame is constructed from solid mahogany with a dark patina. It is currently upholstered in a mustard-coloured velvet fabric with braided gimp trim. A small white rectangular label with printed black digits 931 is located on the reverse of the backrest frame. No other maker marks or stamps are visible.
