Lot 982: Arts and Crafts Oak Three Drawer Dressing Chest with Celtic Revival Carvings
An early 20th-century oak dressing chest designed in the Arts and Crafts style, exhibiting Celtic Revival decorative influences. The piece features an adjustable rectangular mirror plate housed within a shaped pediment frame, supported by two square-section uprights. These uprights are decorated with recessed carved panels featuring a Celtic-style interlace or knotwork motif. The chest base contains three full-width drawers of graduated depth. The drawers are fitted with twin patinated base-metal drop handles on circular backplates, featuring a textured, hammered finish consistent with the period aesthetic. The piece is raised on simple block feet. The primary construction material is solid and veneered oak with a dark-stained finish. The secondary wood used for the drawer sides and internals is a light-coloured softwood, likely pine. The drawers feature traditional hand-cut dovetail joints at the front corners.
Estimated Dimensions: 155cm H x 95cm W x 48cm D.
