Lot 207: A Pair of Reconstituted Stone Staddle Stones
A pair of garden ornaments in the form of traditional staddle stones. Each ornament consists of a separate circular, domed cap resting on a tapered, four-sided pedestal base. The items are crafted from reconstituted or cast stone with a granular texture and a pale buff colour. The pedestals feature a rough-hewn, tooled finish designed to broaden towards the base. This architectural form is historically derived from foundation stones used to elevate granaries. These examples bear contemporary auction identification labels and handwritten stock markings on the upper surfaces.
