Lot 290: A Collection of Mid-20th Century Millinery and a Fur Stole in a Harvey Nichols London Hat Box
This lot comprises a collection of vintage fashion accessories presented in a branded hat box. The circular hat box is constructed from dark green cardboard and features gold-toned lettering for Harvey Nichols London and a stylized geometric motif. The millinery includes a Panama-style straw fedora with a fine, tight weave and a wide black grosgrain ribbon band. A second straw hat in a trilby style features a coarser open-weave construction and a brown ribbon band with a light-coloured border. Also included is a grey felted wool beret with an interior label printed with Fashion Beret, Made in England and a wool quality symbol. The collection further contains a multi-pelt fur stole crafted from reddish-brown fur, consistent with mink. The stole is designed in a traditional mid-century style, incorporating four individual pelts joined together, complete with preserved heads featuring glass eyes, paws, and tails.
Condition report:
The hat box shows signs of age-related wear, including scuffing to the edges, surface marks, and interior adhesive tape residue. The straw hats are in generally good condition with minor surface marks. The wool beret appears well-preserved. The fur stole shows good lustre to the fur; however, there is evidence of age-related stiffening to the hide, particularly around the paws.
