Lot 323: A Vintage Pakawa Brown Leather Gladstone Briefcase, Dated March 1965
A mid-20th-century vintage brown leather briefcase manufactured by Pakawa in England. The bag features a Gladstone-style hinged frame construction with a single leather-wrapped top handle. The exterior is fitted with brass-tone hardware, including a central three-dial combination lock with an integrated keyhole and protective metal corner plates. The interior is lined with a suede-like material and contains a central divider. The underside of the fastening flap is impressed with Pakawa and Made in England. An interior paper label includes text regarding the nature of genuine leather and specifies the names Pakawa, Blackbird, and Travalite. A circular date stamp to the internal side gusset is marked 3 / 65.
Condition report:
The item is in poor condition and is offered for restoration. There is an extensive presence of white surface mould and mildew bloom across both the interior and exterior leather. The leather shows general scuffing, edge wear, and signs of age-related desiccation. The metal hardware is tarnished with visible verdigris present around the studs and hinges.
