Lot 438: A Contemporary Painted Sheet Metal Rooster Garden Ornament
A decorative garden sculpture of a rooster or cockerel, constructed from cut and formed sheet metal with welded components. The bird is designed in a folk-art style with layered and crimped metal plumage. It is hand-painted with a red comb and wattle, a cream neck, and a body featuring off-white feathers with brown-toned accents at the edges. The tail consists of large, curved metal sections finished in a dark maroon-brown colour. The sculpture stands on stylised metal legs and feet. Two adhesive stock or auction labels are adhered to the piece, marked 438 and 5477. No manufacturer marks are visible on the exterior.
Condition report:
The item is in a weathered condition. There is significant flaking and loss to the paint throughout, exposing the metal substrate. Surface oxidation and rust are present across various areas, most notably on the legs, feet, and along the edges of the plumage.
