Lot 487: Art Deco Reverse-Painted Glass Miniature Frame with Dancer Motif
An Art Deco reverse-painted glass miniature frame or desk ornament, likely of British origin and dating to the early 20th century. The central feature is a glass panel reverse-painted with a stylized female dancer in theatrical costume, wearing an elaborate headpiece and a wide, floral-patterned skirt while holding a fan. The figure is set against a solid black ground, reflecting the influence of 1920s cabaret culture and the Ballets Russes. The glass is housed in a white metal frame, possibly silver-plated or a base metal alloy, featuring a repeating reeded border. The side of the metal frame is stamped with the mark PAT 202213, which corresponds to a British patent granted in the early 1920s for improvements in picture frame construction. The reverse is fitted with a dark-stained wooden backing and an integrated fold-out easel strut.
