Lot 535: A collection of contemporary calligraphy and sumi-e ink painting sets with instructional book
A collection of contemporary calligraphy and sumi-e (ink painting) sets, comprising two presentation cases and an instructional book. The first item is a fan-shaped case upholstered in teal silk brocade with a red velvet-lined interior. It contains several bamboo-handled calligraphy brushes with natural hair tips, each inscribed with gold-tone characters translating to Bunbō Shihō (Four Treasures of the Study). Included porcelain accessories consist of a blue and white water dropper, a mountain-shaped brush rest, and a small ink dish. The set also features a carved pale green stone seal, a small gilt-metal spoon, and an oval grey stone ink stone.
The second item is a rectangular silk brocade case containing several molded and pigmented ink sticks in black, green, white, blue, and red, each featuring a gilded dragon design. This is accompanied by a larger oval stone ink stone with a carved decorative border.
The lot is completed by a softcover edition of Japanese Ink Painting: The Art of Sumi-e by Naomi Okamoto.
