Lot 572: A Collection of Vintage and Antique Metal Utilitarian Objects and Tools
An assortment of vintage and antique metal items comprising a brass pedestal vessel, a cast iron specialist hammer, a mechanical ice cream scoop, and a bull’s head style can opener. The small brass vessel features a bulbous body on a pedestal base with a scroll-style handle, potentially serving as a spirit measure or cream jug; it carries an auction lot tag from Liskeard Auction Rooms. The cast iron hammer is designed with a flat face and cross-peen head, featuring raised cast lettering on the handle starting with WILLIAMS, which may identify the maker as J.H. Williams and Co. The mechanical ice cream scoop is constructed from a gold-toned metal, featuring a hemispherical bowl with an internal scraper blade operated by a spring-loaded squeeze-handle mechanism. The cast iron can opener follows a traditional bull’s head design, incorporating a piercing spike and a curved cutting blade with a loop handle.
Condition report:
All items are in a used, as-found condition with age-appropriate surface wear. The cast iron hammer and can opener show significant surface oxidation and a dark patina throughout. The mechanical ice cream scoop appears complete and functional but exhibits surface tarnish and signs of frequent use. The brass vessel retains a natural aged patina with minor surface marks.
