Lot 644: A Pair of Royal Doulton Lambeth Slater's Patent Cobalt Blue Stoneware Vases
A matching pair of Royal Doulton stoneware vases manufactured at the Lambeth pottery, London. The vases are of baluster form with flared, gilded rims and circular pedestal bases. The central section of each vase features the Doulton & Slater’s Patent lace-work technique, where a textured ground created from real lace is hand-painted with polychrome floral sprays in terracotta, white, and buff tones. The neck and lower body are finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze, decorated with gilded floral motifs and separated from the central band by gilded, beaded borders. The underside of the bases feature several impressed marks, including the Royal Doulton England circular backstamp with a crown, used circa 1902-1922, the words SLATER’S PATENT, and the model numbers 672 and 7011.
