Lot 646: A Group of Keele Street Pottery Cottage Ware Tableware Items
Keele Street Pottery cottage ware. A collection of mid-20th-century Staffordshire novelty earthenware. The assortment includes a large vessel with a woven cane swing handle, possibly a biscuit barrel, fashioned as a two-storey red-brick cottage with a thatched roof; a teapot designed as a timber-framed thatched cottage; a lidded sugar bowl and cream jug in similar cottage forms; a beehive-form honey pot with a bee-shaped finial and relief-moulded bees; a blue cottage-style money box; and a rounded thatched hut preserve jar. Each piece is relief-moulded and hand-painted under a clear glaze in a palette of straw-yellow, reddish-brown, and green. The underside of one item bears a circular black backstamp for Keele St. Pottery Co. Ltd, Tunstall, Staffordshire, and the script Handpainted, accompanied by incised KSP lettering.
