Lot 883: Two side chairs comprising a Chinese Ming-style hardwood chair and a contemporary white-painted chair
This lot consists of two disparate side chairs. The first is a Chinese Ming-style chair crafted from a polished reddish-brown hardwood. The design features a traditional yoke-shaped top rail over a curved central back splat decorated with a carved circular fretwork motif representing the shou or longevity symbol. The chair is constructed with a rectangular inset panel seat and square-section legs joined by a box stretcher. An auction label is attached to the central splat identifying it as Lot 897 and inscribed with the text Oriental Chair and Grey Chair. A small secondary label with the characters JO is present on the top rail. The second item is a contemporary side chair with a white-painted finish, featuring a curved rectangular backrest and four tapered legs. It is accompanied by a detachable, padded tie-on seat cushion upholstered in a nautical-themed fabric with a repeating print of colourful beach huts. A separate auction label identifies this chair as Lot 883.
