Lot 886: A Mid-20th Century Tudor Revival Oak Bachelor Bureau with Linenfold Carving
An oak bachelor bureau of compact proportions, designed in the Tudor Revival or Jacobethan style. The piece features a slanted fall-front top decorated with two panels of linenfold carving, opening on brass hinges to a fitted interior. This interior contains various horizontal and vertical pigeonholes and a single central drawer with a turned wooden knob. Below, the carcass is fitted with four graduated drawers, each with a moulded edge and twin turned wooden knob handles. The bureau is raised on four squat bun feet. Constructed primarily from oak with a dark-stained finish, the construction incorporates secondary wood elements to the interior and drawer bases. This piece reflects the mid-20th-century resurgence of 17th-century and 19th-century rustic Renaissance cabinet designs, often associated with manufacturers such as Wood Bros.
