Lot 920: Late Victorian Carved Mahogany Finish Spoon-Back Armchair
A late Victorian style upholstered easy chair, often referred to as a lady’s or gentleman’s spoon-back chair. The piece is constructed with a carved wooden frame featuring a dark reddish-brown mahogany-toned finish. The spoon-shaped backrest is button-tufted and upholstered in a light beige velvet or plush fabric, which also covers the padded armrests and the seat. The frame is decorated with scrollwork carvings on the crest rail and arm supports. It features a serpentine front seat rail and is raised on cabriole front legs terminating in small castors, with splayed legs to the rear. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the frame or upholstery, though a small white auction lot tag is present on the side of the frame.
